NEW MINAS – The province has announced the New Minas interchange linking Commercial Street with a new highway exit will be completed this November.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal spokesperson Gary Andrea has confirmed the project is on schedule even with work remaining to complete.
“The work that is still underway deals with the approaches to the roundabouts, lighting, and pavement markings,” he said in an email.
“The interchange is expected to open to all traffic by the latter part of November as planned.”

The project also includes the construction of four new ramps to form the diamond-shaped interchange, a 900-metre connector road, the construction of three roundabouts, signage, guardrails, highway lighting and an underground drainage system.
The roundabout being built at the end of Granite Drive and Silver Fox Avenue is nearly completed, and currently in use.
The department says the project will reduce travel times for road users and reduce congestion on Commercial Street.
Interchange construction first began in the winter of 2017. The total estimated cost of the project, which is being cost shared by the federal and provincial governments, is $16.5 million. The Village of New Minas is contributing between $700,000 and $800,000 to extend sewer and water services and for sidewalks. The project will help enable potential development in the vicinity of the interchange and south of Highway 101.
