This is the latest court report for Kings and West Hants counties.

Cannabis dispensary fined

A New Minas cannabis dispensary, 3325513 Nova Scotia Limited carrying on business as Valley Medicinal Cannabis Services, has been fined for possessing less than three kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Ben Gillespie was present in Kentville provincial court on behalf of the company on April 30 and pleaded guilty to the charge. Judge Christopher Manning fined the company a total of $25,000.

The offence was committed in New Minas on Sept. 21, 2018.

Exceeded legal limit

Richard Leslie Dorey-Robinson, 23, of Rawdon Gold Mines, has been fined for having a blood alcohol concentration equal to or exceeding the legal limit within two hours of ceasing to operate a conveyance.

Dorey-Robinson pleaded guilty to the charge on April 30. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined him a total of $1,000 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him.

Dorey-Robinson committed the offence in Windsor on April 5. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Dorey-Robinson gave breathalyser readings of 140 and 140.

Breathalyser offence, drove while disqualified

Robert Joel Culham, 44, of Kingston, has been sentenced to intermittent custody for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit and for driving while disqualified.

Culham changed his pleas to guilty on May 1. On the breathalyser charge, Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Culham to 30 days of intermittent custody, beginning on May 3 at 8 p.m. to May 6 at 5 a.m. and continuing every weekend until the sentence is served. The court imposed a two-and-a-half-year driving prohibition against Culham.

He was sentenced to 15 days of intermittent custody, to be served consecutively, for driving while disqualified. The court imposed a one-year driving prohibition, to be served concurrently, in relation to this charge. Culham was also sentenced to eight months of probation on the two charges.

Culham committed the offences in Factorydale on Aug. 24, 2018. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Culham gave breathalyser readings of 160 and 160.

Another count of driving while disqualified and a charge of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol were dismissed on May 1.

Suspended sentence for drug charges

Nathan Owen Armstrong, 31, of Kempt Shore, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for possessing the drug Xanax for the purpose of trafficking and possessing hydromorphone.

Armstrong changed his plea to guilty to possessing Xanax for the purpose of trafficking on April 30. He was originally charged with possessing hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking but pleaded guilty to the lesser, included offence of possession on April 30.

Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Armstrong a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation on the two charges. The court granted a forfeiture order for offence-related property, $1,000.25 in cash.

Armstrong committed the offences in Three Mile Plains on Oct. 26, 2018.

Time deemed served

Stephen Charles Marshall, 31, of Bedford, has been sentenced to time deemed served for committing mischief by willfully damaging a mattress of the Kingston RCMP.

Marshall changed his plea to guilty on April 30. Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Marshall to one day in custody deemed served.

Marshall committed the offence in Kingston on Feb. 25, 2018. A charge of assaulting a police officer engaged in the execution of his duty was dismissed on April 30.

Conditional discharge for assault

Melissa Margaret Keddy, 38, of Three Mile Plains, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Keddy changed her plea to guilty on March 15 and the matter was adjourned to April 30 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Keddy a conditional discharge with eight months of probation.

Keddy committed the offence in Brooklyn on June 12, 2018.

Fraud, drug possession

Anthony Broderick Roy, 29, of Windsor, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for defrauding Sobeys of a sum of money not exceeding $5,000 and possessing methamphetamine, a.k.a. crystal meth.

Roy pleaded guilty to the charges on April 30. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Roy a suspended sentence with six months of probation on the two charges.

Roy committed the offences in Windsor on Oct. 17, 2017, and on Oct. 28, 2018.
