This is the latest court report for Kings and West Hants counties.

Drug, weapon, probation offences

Jacob Thomas Cuvelier, 25, formerly of Wolfville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation – including community service work – for unlawfully possessing cocaine; possessing a prohibited weapon, brass knuckles, and failing to comply with probation by failing to comply with daily curfew.

Cuvelier was originally charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking but pleaded guilty to the lesser, included offence of possession on Oct. 25. He also pleaded guilty to the prohibited weapon charge on Oct. 25. The matters were adjourned to Jan. 2 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Cuvelier pleaded guilty to the probation charge on Jan. 2.

Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Cuvelier a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation on the three charges. Cuvelier must complete 20 hours of community service work as part of his probation in relation to the possession offence; 15 hours in relation to the prohibited weapon offence and 10 hours in relation to the probation offence. The court also imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Cuvelier in relation to the prohibited weapon offence.

Cuvelier committed the offences in Wolfville on Nov. 14, 2017, and in Halifax on Aug. 10. A charge of carrying a weapon, bear spray, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace was dismissed on Jan. 2 and two counts of failing to comply with his recognizance were withdrawn on Jan. 2.
