Six months in custody for child luring
A Brooklyn Corner man has been handed a six-month jail term after being found guilty of child luring.
Bradley Baxter, 25, was present in Kentville provincial court Jan. 14 when he was ordered to serve a six-month sentence. He will serve a total of 181 days and was given credit for seven days deemed served. He must also complete two years of probation.
Baxter’s DNA will also be kept in the Sexual Offender Information Registration Act, or SOIRA, database for life, and he is under a no-contact order with the victim for 10 years.
Assault case leads to probation
A Greenwood man will be under probation for one year after being found guilty of assault.
Jonathan Kenneth Porter, 33, was present Jan. 14 at Kentville provincial court when the judge handed him a suspended sentence and 12-month probation period for assaulting a female.
The incident occurred March 31, 2017 in Aylesford.
Cellphone used for child luring
A man will serve three months and four days in jail after being found guilty of child luring by telecommunications for a sexual purpose.
Nathan Dale Flowers, 27, of no fixed address, was in Windsor provincial court Jan. 14 to receive his sentence after pleading guilty in the case.
Flowers was given credit for 86 days served.
He was also ordered to forfeit his cellphone, and will remain in the SOIRA database for 10 years and under a no-contact order with the victims for three.
Intermittent sentence for assault and fraud
A Windsor man will begin serving an intermittent sentence after pleading guilty to assault and fraud charges.
Dillon Michael Hunter, 22, was present in Windsor provincial court Jan. 14 for his sentencing hearing after pleading guilty to possession of a weapon, assault, unlawfully being inside a house and fraud in relation to fares.
Hunter was handed a 90-day sentence of custody served concurrently and to be served intermittently from 8 p.m. on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Mondays beginning Jan. 18.
He also received nine months of probation on each count.
New trial date for man facing sex offences
A new trial date has been set for a Greenwood man charged with four historic sex offences.
David Eugene Bennett, 63, was present in Kentville provincial court Jan. 16 when the judge granted the Crown’s request for an adjournment.
Bennett’s trial is now set for June 20.
Bennett has pleaded not guilty to four historic sex-related offences, including indecent assault, and sexual intercourse with a minor below fourteen years of age.
One-year probation for uttering threats
Kevin Luigi Giordani, 50, of Coldbrook, entered a guilty plea during his hearing at Kentville provincial court Jan. 16 for uttering threats.
He was subsequently handed a suspended sentence and one year of probation, and a five-year firearm prohibition.
Change of plea in assault case
Douglas Alexander Park, 51, of Berwick, was present in Kentville provincial court Jan. 16 when he changed his plea to guilty on one count of assault.
Park was handed a four-month conditional discharge.
Man charged with sexual assault pleads guilty
A man who changed his plea to guilty in a sexual assault case will appear in Kentville provincial court Feb. 28 for his sentencing.
Kody Alexander Christopher, 24, of Waterville, changed his plea in Kentville provincial court Jan. 15.
He will also appear in court Feb. 12 for a plea hearing for a different case in which he faces multiple sex-related charges.
Driving incident leads to multiple charges
A Kingston man faces heavy fines after being found guilty of multiple driving-related offences relating to the same incident.
Brandon James Wilson, 21, was present in Kentville provincial court Jan. 16 and was sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence order followed by a 12-month period of probation after being found guilty of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, driving without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving without a valid license.
Wilson was also ordered to pay a total of $1,747.50 in fines and has until Jan. 16, 2020 to complete payments.
He is under a driving prohibition for the next three years.
