SHEFFIELD MILLS – An RCMP investigation is ongoing near a Sheffield Mills home after a woman's body was discovered there.
RCMP, paramedics and firefighters were initially called to the scene of a reported cardiac arrest shortly after 6:30 a.m.
The woman’s body was found about 15 metres behind the Saxon Street home. Several police vehicles and officers were on the scene late Wednesday morning, including members of forensics and major crime units.
The woman’s body remained covered in the backyard while investigators worked at the scene.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said she could not comment on any specifics regarding the investigation.
“We’re in the early stages of the investigation and haven’t made a determination about the circumstances and whether or not they are suspicious,” she said.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
