Greenwood man facing charges following alleged ambulance hijacking

MELVERN SQUARE, NS – A Greenwood man is facing charges after an ambulance was allegedly hijacked.

According to a news release, members of Annapolis District RCMP responded to a call of an ambulance being hijacked by a patient, near distance marker 178, on Nov. 24 at 1:04 a.m. The ambulance had been travelling east at the time.

When the RCMP arrived on the scene, they located the hijacked ambulance. A second ambulance that had been in the area arrived at the scene, and the paramedics restrained the suspect on the ground.

The suspect is a 45-year-old man from Greenwood. He was arrested without incident. The man was transported to hospital for assessment and held in custody overnight. He was scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court on Nov. 24 and is facing robbery, assault and impaired driving charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
