BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — It’s back!! Your weekly report of the wide variety of calls the Annapolis District RCMP attend in the run of a week. Cows, cows, more cows and a few horses were the calls of the week of Sept. 22.
September 22
WILMOT – Traffic hazard reported. A dark coloured motorized scooter was reported travelling on the same side of the road as traffic but with no lights on. Patrols were made but it seems the scooter must have had a turbo strapped to her, because it was not gone and not located!
September 23
BRIDGETOWN – A caller reported that in the early hours of the morning, someone threw a case of beer on her step. Why would anyone complain about that? Well, the beer bottles were empty and in pieces on her step. We’d very much like to counsel this as-yet-unidentified subject on where the local recycling depot is located!
WILMOT - Horses on loose. A typical morning in Wilmot! A patrol was made but said horses were rounded up by the local cowboys/girls without incident.
MIDDLETON – A break and enter was reported at a business. Patrols were made by a member. No access was gained and nothing was taken. Extra patrols in the area are being made by the RCMP.
September 24
TORBROOK – Caller reported receiving a call from an alleged ‘Google Play’ employee demanding $1,000 in Google Play cards. Unfortunately the elderly complainant complied with the request but as quick as he did, the Google Play caller requested another $2,000 in cards. The caller then realized this was a scam. The officer called the number and the person answered stated they were from a cruise line and have no affiliation with Google Play and hung up. RCMP are continually stressing awareness about ongoing scams.
PARADISE – An employee doing running steel cables from pole to pole reported they have flaggers out to stop traffic. A black Ford Edge pulled out from behind three stopped cars, went around the cars and the flaggers. The RCMP have located the owner and he is being dealt with accordingly.
BRIDGETOWN – Caller reported responding to an add on Kijiji for kittens. The caller sent a $300 deposit for a kitten but to date does not have a furball to show for it. The add is now gone and phone disconnected. RCMP would like to remind the public about ongoing Kijiji frauds and to be wary of sending money via interact transfer before receipt of the item.
MIDDLETON – Police received reports of a truck travelling on the road with loose cargo. The caller stated that a truck travelling the opposite way, had an unsecure load causing wood to fly off and damage his grill and windshield. Investigation is ongoing.
September 25
BRICKTON – Police received reports of a cow near the 101 Highway. Patrols were made but the cow had mooooooved on!
September 26
GRANVILLE FERRY – Police received reports of a light grey coupe style car speeding back and forth and doing burn outs. The caller stated there was so much smoke caused by the vehicle it was even hard to see the driver! RCMP are reminding the public that doing “burn outs” is considered “stunting” under the Motor Vehicle Act. When located, the driver will be looking at a $2,400 fine, a loss of license, and their vehicle seized.
September 27
ST CROIX COVE – A school bus driver reported a cow was on the road. A patrol made and the bovine had returned to its pasture.
September 28
INGLISVILLE – A Dodge Caravan was located in the middle of the road. There was no driver and the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was towed and removed from roadway.
MOUNT HANLEY – There were seven animals in the roadway. One guess as to what they were. Yes, more wandering cows! The caller was nice enough to stop, put 4-way flashers on to slow down traffic, while the farmers herded them up. Hmmm, ever since no-beef patties hit the isles, seems like we have rather a lot of extra bovines running amuck.
MOUNTIE MEMO: With school back in, the RCMP would like to remind the public about monitoring speeds in school zones and being diligent to surroundings especially at school bus stops.
