AYLESFORD LAKE, N.S. - A seasonal cabin is damaged beyond repair following an overnight fire.
The structure fire, located along the 1,100 block of North River Road, was called in by a passerby at 3:30 a.m. Nov. 25, said chief Brian Desloges of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department.
The call came in 30 minutes after Aylesford’s fire department was dispatched to investigate a smoke condition in the nearby Lake George area around 3 a.m., Desloges said.
“They arrived there first and what they found was a cottage, approximately 25 by 40 feet, significantly burnt… the building was absolutely a complete loss.”
Aylesford’s firefighters began the initial attack and Kentville’s crews assisted with the overhaul, Desloges said.
“What made the big difference was the fact that Aylesford was so close, ordinarily they wouldn’t be – they’d be as far away as we are.”
The cottage was not occupied when the fire broke out, and there were no injuries as a result of the blaze that brought the structure to the ground.
The cause is undetermined but not believed to be suspicious.
“There was snow on the ground and absolutely no footprints,” said Desloges.
“The Aylesford fire chief arrived first and the snow was completely untouched – no marks, no tracks.”
Fire departments in New Minas and Waterville were initially paged to the scene as part of the automatic aid protocol in place, but Desloges said “part way through the response” it was determined that resources from Kentville and Aylesford would be sufficient.
