THREE MILE PLAINS, N.S. – An unoccupied home along the 4300 block of Highway 1 in Three Mile Plains suffered extensive damage, after a fire, which started in the basement, worked its way through the structure.
Brooklyn Fire Chief Jason Cochrane said they got the call shortly before 2 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Part of the road was blocked to traffic for a time while first responders, including firefighters and RCMP attended to the scene.
“It was reported unoccupied and there was heavy smoke upon arrival,” Cochrane said. “When our first engine arrived, they went in and did find fire in the basement, we don’t know its origin at this point.”
Cochrane said the fire was knocked down quickly, but firefighters were combing the structure for heat spots and embers to ensure it was safe. He said heat damage was extensive inside.
He said that both Brooklyn stations responded to the scene, with Summerville and Hantsport assisting through mutual aid.
“Being a holiday, a lot of people were around to help out with the response,” he said.
No injuries were reported.
