BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — Members of the Annapolis District RCMP want people to report suspicious activity as cottages and cabins open for the season. There have been a few break-ins recently.

The week of April 22 police were busy with a lot of calls, a few of them kind of odd. Here are some highlights.

April 22, 2019

WEST SPRINGHILL – A break-and-enter into a cottage was reported. Nothing appeared to be taken but the door was damaged. The RCMP always encourages members of the public to report any suspicious person or activity they may see.

April 23, 2019

BRIDGETOWN – There were reports of a white Blazer driving around playing excessively loud music. The driver pointed at the caller, perhaps in the vague hope she would come out and have a dance or two? Patrols were made but the party bus was gone upon arrival. There’s a time and place… and, if warranted, a fine for just about anything.

MIDDLETON – Not a week goes by that we need to remind certain individuals that a driver’s license isn’t just a ‘nice-to-have.’ Bad enough one such fellow didn’t have a license, but he was also dinged for 31 kilometres over the posted speed limit. That resulted in a parting gift of $410 for speeding coupled with a court date to explain why he should be exempt from having a licence. My guess is that’s not going to go that well. Spring has sprung and folks are out and about walking – please drive with due care and attention.

GRANVILLE FERRY – A hang up 911 call was received. Officers attended and found the 911 location to be an abandoned house with no one living there. A little early for Halloween isn’t it?

MIDDLETON – Officers attended a call at the NSLC for a female stealing liquor. One bottle of vodka confirmed missing. RCMP is obtaining video surveillance and the incident remains under investigation.

April 24, 2019

GRANVILLE FERRY – A break-in was reported at the Rite Stop. Entry was gained through a window and once inside, suspects kicked a door in to gain access to neighbouring business, Global Strings. The file remains open and RCMP are requesting that any information be reported.

MEADOWVALE – A report was received of a female driving a four-door Pontiac G5, sped past the caller in school zone and a double yellow line to boot. The complainant followed the vehicle and attempted to speak with the driver. The received response of “I am 20 years old and an adult,” coupled with a threat to assault, pretty well debunked the ‘adult’ part of that argument. The file remains open with a strong possibility of several tickets coming someone’s way.

April 25, 2019

MIDDLETON -- A complaint was received from Tim Hortons of a male being rude and belligerent. Officers attended and spoke with the subject advising he is no longer welcome and he will have to get his coffee elsewhere.

MIDDLETON – A caller reported that his car’s front window was smashed and trunk dented. It appears it happened sometime between 6 and 8 p.m. Located next to the car, was a piece of concrete. RCMP is requesting any information on this incident, to please let them know.

April 26, 2019

DOUGLAS ROAD – Here’s one that had us puzzled for a bit. RCMP received a call from OnStar who reported that an OnStar client called on behalf of a friend whose vehicle was off the road. We responded quickly and wayyyyy down this mucky, pot-holed, dirt road we found a white Chrysler 300 thoroughly and properly stuck in the mud. A tow was called and all’s well – although we’re scratching our heads a bit on the idea of “muddin’” in a Chrysler 300 luxury vehicle.

WEST DALHOUSIE – A caller reporting seeing a truck at his neighbour’s home and then departing with items in the back. The RCMP contacted the homeowner to advise and to inquire if anything was missing. The owner stated there wasn’t and was happy for the police presence in the area – not to mention the eagle-eyed and conscientious neighbours.

PARADISE – Theft of Bombardier Skidoo from a garage was reported. The back door lock was broken and entry gained. Tracks were visible from the suspect vehicle. Any information on this theft, please give us a call.

April 27, 2019

MIDDLETON – Driving with only one working headlight caught an officer’s attention. While checking the vehicle, it also turned out the licence plate was issued for another vehicle, resulting in a $180 fine. ‘When it rains, it…’, the driver also did not have a motor vehicle liability policy, another fine, a tad higher at $1272.50.

April 28, 2019

GRANVILLE FERRY – Ohhh, this one had an odour to it… A caller was on a fishing boat between Granville Ferry and Annapolis Royal, when for whatever reason, the captain threw a bucket of feces at him and told him to clean it up. We’re looking into why the s@#t hit the fan.

MILFORD -- Break into a cottage – smile for the camera! The suspect is highlighted in living color entering the cabin with a gun on his shoulder, then exiting the cabin with some odds and ends that don’t belong to him - including a roll of toilet paper. We don’t need to get into further detail here – suffice to say, we’ll get to the bottom of this.

MOUNTIE MEMOS:

It is that time a year when cottage owners are opening up for the summer and noticing damage or break ins. RCMP are encouraging all cottage owners, no matter if anything is missing, to report incidents to the RCMP. Any report could lead to the conclusion of this or another investigation.
