BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Annapolis County, and the drizzle happening now is expected to turn into a by deluge tonight.
Up to 80 millimetres of rain could fall by Friday evening.
The warning said rain showers will turn to steady rain ahead of a warm front approaching from the west today.
“The rain will become heavy at times later tonight as this system interacts with moisture from post-tropical storm Michael,” the agency said. “At this time, total rainfall amounts of 30 to 60 millimetres are expected by Friday evening, with amounts possibly reaching 80 millimeteres in areas of heaviest rain. The rain will begin to taper off from west to east Friday evening as the system moves eastward.
In old-school measurements, 80 millimetres is just over three inches.
Michael, currently a tropical storm, is expected to transition to a post-tropical storm prior to tracking south of Nova Scotia on Friday, Environment Canada said, adding that some uncertainty remains in the exact intensity and speed of the storm.
“A slight shift in the track could significantly affect the rainfall amounts over Nova Scotia,” it said.
Environment Canada’s forecast has drizzle changing to rain thisafternoon with 10 to 20 millimetres expected. Tonight it will be rain at times heavy with 20 to 30 millimetres likely and up top 40 millimetres in areas of heaviest rain.
Another five to 10 millimetres is expected Friday.
