BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - Winter weather played havoc with driving conditions causing some car crashes during the week of Nov. 19 to 26. There was a suspicious black vehicle, theft of a dog, an air compressor that went AWOL, and a restaurant under renovation broken into.

Following are highlights of the week:

Nov. 19, 2018

SOUTH MILFORD – A driver heading north on Highway 8 lost control on slippery roads and ended up in the ditch. The vehicle was towed and the driver was a little shaken up but not injured.

CORNWALLIS – Another accident required RCMP response. The vehicle, after hitting the stop sign, went off the road. The cause of the accident was due to slippery roads and having summer tires on vehicle. The RCMP is reminding the public that it is November, and as much as we don’t want to believe it, winter is here!

DEEP BROOK – Police received a report of a transport truck blocking the road. The truck was stuck at the top of the on ramp due to slippery roads. There was no damage to the vehicle and no injuries to the driver. The truck was eventually moved out of the way.

MIDDLETON – Police received reports of three teens throwing rocks at vehicles at a local car dealership parking lot. The RCMP attended but did not find any damage to the vehicles. Obviously these rock-throwing youths won’t be making the major leagues anytime soon if they can’t hit a vehicle in a parking lot full of cars.

Nov. 20, 2018

SOUTH WILLIAMSTON – What is worse than your truck being on fire? When it’s a truck filled with diesel fuel and its parked in your driveway! RCMP and fire attended. There was some damage to the home but luckily no one was injured.

NEW ALBANY – A break-and-enter into a garage was reported. Some items were taken but the caller reported they were not of any value. Footprints were found in the snow but ended across the highway.

MIDDLETON – Caller reported a suspicious black car sitting in front of her house for more than15 minutes. When the caller stepped outside, the vehicle moved to the next house. RCMP made a patrol and found out the suspicious vehicle was actually a Bell Aliant vehicle and driver was doing door-to-door sales!

LEQUILLE – There was another motor vehicle accident due to icy roads. Luckily there was no damage to the vehicle or driver. A two truck was called to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.

CLEMENTSPORT – Icy road conditions kept the RCMP busy throughout out the day. Another vehicle had to be towed due to landing in a deep ditch. There were no injuries and minimal damage sustained.

SOUTH WILLAMSTON – RCMP made a patrol to a vehicle off the roadway. The driver stated the vehicle drifted on icy road conditions when going up the hill. No one was injured.

Nov. 21, 2018

GRAYWOOD – There was a break-and-enter into a cottage. The suspect used a grinder to cut the gate to the driveway and then broke several windows and doors. Weirdly enough, nothing was stolen but the place was ransacked. RCMP are asking the public with any information on this B&E to please contact the Annapolis District RCMP.

MIDDLETON – Those suspicious Bell Aliant people were back! A caller reported a dark car sitting outside the home and when the RCMP arrived, they noted the Bell Media magnet on the door.

Nov. 22, 2018

WALDECK – RCMP made a patrol to a report of a stranded motorist. The RCMP located the vehicle that was stuck in the middle of the road along with the driver. The vehicle was removed from the roadway and driver was driven home.

EAST INGLISVILLE – A car vs Valley Waste truck was reported. The driver did not notice the Valley Waste truck until the last minute when swerving to avoid it. The vehicle then hit the snow bank and then back to hit the Valley Waste truck. Only minor damage was done to the vehicle and none to the Valley Waste Vehicle.

CENTRELEA – There were reports of a large 4x4 truck doing donuts in the parking lot. When the RCMP hear ‘donuts’ they always rush to the scene! A patrol made but unfortunately the truck was gone. Donuts remained visible but not the kind the officer wanted!

Nov. 23, 2018

MIDDLETON – A driver was obviously in a rush to get his coffee because he backed into a vehicle and hurried out of the Tim Horton’s parking lot. The vehicle was described as a white Ford Ranger. The caller had damage done to the right front bumper of his vehicle. Any member of the public having knowledge of this hit-and-run, please contact the Annapolis District RCMP.

Nov. 24, 2018

MIDDLETON – Police received a report of an air compressor being stolen. The RCMP made a patrol and the caller explained how he was doing work in an apartment building and left it in the hallway. When he came back the next day, it was gone. The caller said people had told him who took it so the RCMP made a patrol to the suspect’s home. Low and behold, there was the compressor. The suspect stated he thought it was garbage so took it. Yes, compressors that are garbage are always left plugged in a hallway when maintenance work is being done!

Nov. 25, 2018

PORT ROYAL – Police received a report of a grey pick up in the ditch but nobody around the vehicle. RCMP made a patrol and the driver was already in the process of having the truck towed out. The driver didn’t report it to the police probably for the reason that he was unable to produce valid insurance. A ticket was issued.

LAWRENCETOWN – RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter that occurred at some point in the last two weeks when the caller was on vacation. The store was being renovated and appeared entry was gained by using the side door. RCMP are requesting the public with any information on this incident, to please contact the RCMP.

MIDDLETON – RCMP received a complaint of a theft of dog. A caller reported she gave the dog to a friend to take care of for a short period of time but now her friend wont give the dog back. The RCMP made a patrol, retrieved the dog, and returned the four-legged fur baby back to a very happy owner.
