An RCMP release says construction on the building’s interior and exterior is steadily progressing – with painting, ceiling installation, drywall plastering and mechanical work currently underway inside on its first and second floors – and is expected to be completed during the spring of 2019.

Construction for the project first began in October 2017.

“With the window and brick installations nearly complete, you can get a clearer idea of how different spaces within the building will look,” said Insp. Dan Morrow, Officer in Charge of Kings District RCMP, via release.

“You can really see now how spaces like the front lobby will have lots of natural light and will be a great space to serve our communities.”
The building, located at 8833 Commercial Street in New Minas, will serve as the RCMP Kings District Office and will house operational units including the Southwest Nova District Policing Officer, New Minas Detachment members, Major Crimes Unit, Traffic Services, General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services.

Altogether, these will total 73 full-time employees. According to the release, “The units will come together under one roof for improved operations and more efficient collaboration.”
