Jail time for forgery
Kevin Douglas Sampson, 43, of no fixed address, has been sentenced to jail time for two counts of using a forged document as if it were genuine.
Sampson pleaded not guilty to the charges in June 2011 and the matters were adjourned for trial. A bench warrant was issued for non-appearance on Dec. 14, 2011. Sampson was present in Kentville provincial court on Nov. 6, and consented to being remanded in custody until Dec. 5, when he changed his pleas to guilty.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Sampson to 60 days in custody on each count, to be served concurrently to one another but consecutively to any other sentence presently being served. The court granted a standalone restitution order for $1,400 payable to one of the victims and a standalone restitution order for $825 payable to the other victim.
Sampson committed the offences in Melanson on Feb. 12 and 14, 2010. Another count of using a forged document as if it were genuine and a charge of failing to comply with probation were dismissed on Dec. 5 with the Crown offering no evidence.
Break, enter and theft
Christopher Paul Baird, 29, of Halifax, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing a break, enter and theft and for failing to comply with probation.
Baird changed his pleas to guilty on Nov. 26. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Baird a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation on each of the two charges, to be served concurrently, and fined him a total of $400 in victim surcharges.
Baird committed the offences in Ardoise on July 24, 2015.
Fined for drug possession
Charlene Ann Coyle, 50, of Kingston, has been fined for unlawfully possessing methamphetamine and unlawfully possessing hydromorphone.
Coyle was charged originally with possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking but changed her pleas to guilty to the lesser, included offence of possession on both counts on Dec. 5. Judge Christopher Manning fined Coyle a total of $650 for unlawfully possessing methamphetamine and fined her a total of $325 for unlawfully possessing hydromorphone.
Coyle committed the offences in Kingston on May 26, 2017.
Breathalyser offence
Daniel Patrick Douglas Hardy, 18, of Berwick, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Hardy pleaded guilty to the charge on Dec. 4. Judge Christopher Manning fined Hardy a total of $1,300 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him.
Hardy committed the offence in Kingston on Oct. 6. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Hardy gave breathalyser readings of 100 and 90.
Breathalyser offence
Gina Lynn Rushton, 48, of New Minas, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Rushton pleaded guilty to the charge on Dec. 4. Judge Christopher Manning fined Rushton a total of $1,300 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against her.
Rushton committed the offence in Wolfville Ridge on Oct. 1. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Rushton gave breathalyser readings of 140 and 140.
Curative treatment discharge
Monica Vidalene Jackson, 51, of Hantsport, has been handed a curative treatment conditional discharge for operating a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Jackson changed her plea to guilty on Sept. 11. The court imposed a one-year driving prohibition against her. The matter was adjourned for sentencing and for the defence to make an application for a curative discharge.
On Dec. 3, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek granted Jackson a curative treatment conditional discharge with 12 months of probation. Jackson was fined $100 in victim surcharges.
Jackson committed the offence in Hantsport on Feb. 23. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Jackson gave breathalyser readings of 170 and 160.
Suspended sentence for firearm offences
Geoffrey Richard Scott Parker, 40, of Halls Harbour, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for possessing firearms without the necessary licence, and, in the case of a prohibited or restricted firearm, without being the holder of a registration certificate for the firearm; and storing a firearm, a Winchester shotgun, contrary to the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations.
Parker pleaded guilty to the charges on Oct. 3 and the matters were adjourned for sentencing. On Dec. 5, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Parker a suspended sentence with one year of reporting probation on each of the two charges, to be served concurrently. Parker was also fined a total of $400 in victim surcharges.
Parker committed the offences in Halls Harbour on Feb. 4. The other 39 firearm-related charges against Parker were dismissed with the Crown offering no evidence.
Conditional discharge for assault
Richard Evan Lutz, 31, of White Rock, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.
Lutz changed his plea to guilty on Oct. 15 and the matter was adjourned to Dec. 5 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Christopher Manning handed Lutz a conditional discharge with nine months of probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges.
Lutz committed the offence in White Rock on May 31.
Conditional discharge for threat
Brett Evan Tetanish, 42, of Union Corner, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for, by speaking indirectly to an individual, knowingly conveying a threat to her to cause death to another individual.
Tetanish pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 30. The matter was adjourned to Dec. 4 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Tetanish a conditional discharge with eight months of probation.
Tetanish committed the offence in Windsor on Aug. 2. A charge of assault was withdrawn on Dec. 4.
