KENTVILLE, N.S. – A human trafficking case has been dismissed after the Crown’s main witness did not show up for the trial.

Franklin Dale McKay, 29, of Greenwood, was present in Kentville provincial court Jan. 14 when the case against him was thrown out after the Crown offered no further evidence, and each of the four human trafficking charges he was facing was dismissed.

McKay had pleaded not guilty to all charges at his plea hearing July 31, 2018.

He remains in federal custody after receiving a seven-year sentence April 19, 2018 for his role in a violent home invasion and robbery on Jan. 4, 2018 in Kentville. He was also handed an additional six months in custody for other non-related charges of dangerous and impaired driving and drug possession charges stemming from a 2017 incident.

McKay was sentenced to serve a total of seven years and 30 days in custody, minus 52 days served on remand, and remains under a lifetime ban on firearms, ammunition and explosive substances and a 12-year driving prohibition.
