WOLFVILLE, N.S. — The Kings-Hants NDP association is slated to nominate a party candidate in early March.
Hugh Curry, president of the NDP Kings Hants Electoral District Association, recently announced that a meeting will be held in the Wolfville legion March 7 at 7 p.m. to nominate the party's candidate for the next federal election.
Stephen Schneider was the sole nomination contestant when the meeting date was announced via a press release Feb. 15.
"The riding association is very excited that Stephen has offered to stand for the nomination," Curry said. "He has lived in the Annapolis Valley since 2003 and understands both the strengths of and challenges facing the Kings-Hants riding.”
Schneider was the NDP candidate for Kings South in the 2017 provincial election in Nova Scotia.
Curry added that Parliament would benefit greatly from Dr. Schneider’s work as a criminology professor at Saint Mary’s University, which provides him with unique credentials to help address some of the more pressing criminal justice issues facing this country.
The Kings-Hants riding had been represented in Parliament by Scott Brison, who officially resigned as the MP on Feb. 10.
“Regardless of who represents the NDP in the upcoming federal election, I believe the people of Kings-Hants are ready for change,” Curry said.
“The NDP represents the best hope for positive change, especially given the little difference between the Liberals and the Conservatives.”
