BIRCHTOWN - The Black Loyalist Heritage Society is holding a fundraiser for a chance to take in a concert by a renowned performer.
Award winning Canadian opera singer and Black Loyalist descendant Measha Brueggergosman will be touring Nova Scotia and the society is holding a raffle fundraiser.
“We are having a raffle fundraiser to promote her tour, as well as to raise funds for the student bursary program,” says Vanessa Fells, public programming and outreach co-ordinator for the society.
The grand prize is dinner and two tickets to see Measha Brueggergosman for her holiday concert tour when she performs at Th’YARC Playhouse and Arts Centre in Yarmouth on Saturday, Dec. 16. Second prize is two tickets for her Dec. 16 show at Th’YARC.
The raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. To purchase raffle tickets call 902-875-1293 or visit the Black Loyalist Heritage Center in Birchtown.
Meanwhile, for those not lucky enough to win tickets through this fundraiser, tickets for the concert are $45 (or $40 for YARC members) and can be purchased at Th’YARC’s box office on Parade Street or by calling 902-742-8150.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m.

The Canadian soprano is described as having emerged as one of the most significant performers and vibrant personalities of the day. She has participated in a number of special events, including Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, and the opening ceremonies of the XVI International Aids Conference in Toronto.
She has performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland two consecutive years, and has given a royal command performance for Queen Elizabeth II. She has also sung for the Prince of Wales, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Queen Sonja of Norway, President Tarja Halonen of Finland, as well as for Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan.
