BERWICK – Veterans, current military members and residents of Berwick together marked 100 years since the end of the First World War on Nov. 11.
Ninety-six-year-old Second World War veteran Earl Dolsen stood tall as his trumpet rang out with notes from The Last Post.
Provincial minister and legislative assembly member Leo Glavine was among the day’s speakers, and noted the 66,000 Canadians killed and 138,000 injured during the First World War, referred to then as the Great War.
“So today we come together to remember and commit to a world where we should be working towards peace,” he said.
Berwick Mayor Don Clarke also spoke, noting the new memorial in front of the Berwick District School that sits on the aptly named Veterans Drive.
“It’s important that the town have that new memorial… I know it will serve this community for a long time,” he said.
