LIVERPOOL - On Nov. 24, the South Queens Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the Best in Queens competition held earlier this fall.
Although there is a wide assortment of exceptional businesses in the Region of Queens Municipality, each one has something that makes them stand out, whether its stellar service, superior product or creativity and talent, wrote the chamber in its press release.
The free awards ceremony, held at the packed Hell Bay Brewing Company in Liverpool, recognized 31 businesses or people in 10 different categories.
“These awards are all about community pride,” says Jonathan Lloy, president of the South Queens Chamber of Commerce. “We want to recognize and honour the work that owners and staff put into their local businesses.”
The awards were supported with thousands of votes from the community, said Cathie Pincombe, executive director of the South Queens Chamber of Commerce. The number of nominees was staggering, she said.
“Counting down to the winners was exciting and many were on hand to receive their honour,” says Pincombe. “Everyone nominated has been recognised for the commitment they have to serving our community with excellence and pride.”
Amongst those honoured at the event were mother and daughter, Peggy and Tammy Woodworth. Peggy received the award for the best health care provider for her work at Queens General Hospital, while her daughter Tammy received the award for best personal care and wellness provider for her work at the 5th Sense Salon & Spa.
Tammy says it was heartwarming to find out that their work is so appreciated.
“I am so proud to be able to share this and be alongside the woman I admire most, my mom,” says Tammy. “I’m very proud of her and her hard work.”
During the awards ceremony, Tammy accepted the award on behalf of her mother, as she was working, providing the best health care.
Pincombe explains the purpose of the awards was to engage the general public and to create an interactive forum for our community to recognise and honour the best we have in Queens.
