Mother’s Day was celebrated in a special way on May 12 by one Acadia University graduate Joel Okyere and his mom, Charity Anim.
Early in May, Joel accompanied his friend and fellow student Paul Finnemore to the airport thinking he was picking up someone. The someone turned out to be Joel’s mother.
Charity arrived from Ghana to attend his graduation and surprise her only child. Mother and son had not seen each other since Joel came to Canada. She also enjoyed an opportunity to hear her son preach for the first time.
Paul, who is a pastor in Kentville, had coordinated a secret fundraiser to bring Charity to the Valley. Contributors came from the church in Canaan where Joel is pastor and the Acadia Divinity College.
Both Paul and Joel received their Master of Divinity degrees and Paul was awarded the University Silver Medal in Theology.
Amin said she has about another week to spend as a tourist in Nova Scotia.
