NEWPORT LANDING, N.S. — NEWPORT LANDING, N.S. – Tacha Reed, manager of the museum and artist just wrapped up showcasing her latest series called Stewards, during the 21st Annual Great Little Art Show on May 26, said she wanted to showcase the people who make the region so vibrant.
But the season of events is just getting started at the little museum and gallery along the Avon River.
“It started after I decided to attempt a self-portrait, every few years I feel the need to do that and that’s something I haven’t done in fibre except for a childhood version of myself,” Reed said. “Then I started thinking of my other friends out there in the community who are doing really amazing things for the Bay of Fundy and the environment.”
“I just wanted to attempt their portraits as well,” she said.
The other portraits in her series include Darren Porter, Terra Spencer, Jesse Griffith, and Stacie Carroll.
Reed said the subjects have been thrilled to see their personalities captured in the wool.
She’s also begun work on a fibre representation of the Avon River with historical aerial photography and maps.
“Now that I’ve done these portraits, I’ve actually had a few requests,” she said with a laugh. “It’s one thing to do something on your own, but with commissions, you have to live up to certain expectations.”
