GREENWOOD, N.S. — Greenwood’s newest consignment store promises to dress everyone for success.
Rose Hurlburt opened the doors to Second Chance Boutique in early July. This is her second consignment store in the Valley – she previously owned a shop in Wolfville, about 10 years ago, before she moved out west.
“I’ve worked in all kinds of jobs, from law offices to cleaning houses,” she said. “I know how to dress comfortably and fashionably for all kinds of work.”
She added that she’s happy to help people find their best look, whether they are getting ready for that first interview, a power move, or find the comfy clothes to stay home. She stocks a full selection of ladies wear from skirts, shirts, dresses, pants and sandals to purses, scarves, sweaters and a bit of bling.
“I’m honest with people,” she said. “If they ask my opinion, I will tell them the truth. If someone leaves my shop with an outfit that is not flattering, that’s bad for business.”
The prices range from $1 earrings and $7 shirts to designer purses. She added that people can find a fashionable outfit for less than $80. She quality checks each garment before it goes on the floor and steams everything so the clothes will come off the rack fresh and wrinkle-free.
“My customers are picky, so I’m really picky,” she said. “I’ll check and steam everything before it goes out. There is nothing with rips, stains, or dog hair. And, if someone does find something I’ve missed, I want them to tell me about it.”
She accepts seasonal clothes on consignment for 60 days. Whatever doesn’t sell and is not picked up within two weeks will be passed along to local charities. So far, people have been bringing in a good selection of items for women of all sizes, she says.
This is her second business since returning to the Valley a few years ago. She has another house cleaning business but has been looking to switch her focus for health reasons.
This shop has taken her a couple of years of planning and two months of renovation to get ready for opening. A couple of months ago, she felt ready to make the move and she put a call out on Facebook for quality secondhand clothes.
She added that she was pleased with the selections of clothes coming in, with many brand names including Silver American Eagle, Prada, Michael Kors and Guess.
