ASHDALE, N.S. — In the early weeks of May 2014, Meander River Farm announced their soft opening.

“We were brewing and it was time to open the doors. We had no idea what to expect,” said Alan Bailey, owner and brewer at Meander River Farm & Brewery in Ashdale, Hants County.

“There was all weather wrap on the exterior and straw spread on the ground to cover the mud from construction, but the beer lovers weren't bothered.”

Bailey describes that day as a blur of faces, both new and old, coming in and out of the door constantly, seeing over 100 visitors to their rural Hants County farm location.

And then, they ran dry.

“People still come to the brewery and tell us how they came out that day but didn't get to try our beer because we sold out.” Bailey laughs, “we won't run out this time.”

Things moved quickly for Bailey and the brewery. Before he knew it, years had passed and they had not had a grand opening.

After five years in the Nova Scotia Craft beer scene, expanding into craft cider, regional and national brewing awards, and one local award for their cider, Meander River certainly has something to celebrate this May-Long weekend.

A full day of activities is lined up on Saturday, May 18 for their event: 5 Years of Meander River Beers; special beer and cider releases, lawn games, a local food truck, bluegrass band Big Country Ramblers, and a fireworks display, lit by the Brooklyn Fire Department.

“It's going to be a lot of fun. We're ready to celebrate our grand opening, finally,” Bailey said.
