KINGSTON, N.S. - The Great Canadian Dollar Store is setting up a new shop in Kings County.
Work is underway to have a Kingston location open later this month.
“We just have a tentative date right now and the tentative date is Oct. 19,” said Great Canadian Dollar Store owner Kevin Kane.
Some employees have been selected, but the hiring process was still underway as of Oct. 1. Kane anticipates that 12-13 employees will be hired for the new location along Bridge Street in Kingston.
“We have a lot of work to do yet,” he said in a brief phone interview Oct. 1.
“There’s still some positions available”
In the last 25 years, the Great Canadian Dollar Store company has grown to include 118 locations throughout the country. Setting up shop in Kingston is all part of a broader expansion goal Kane has in mind.
“The landlord introduced us to the location. We thought it was an excellent location - very visible, and the population is there,” he said.
“We’re trying to get into every community where we don’t have a store.”
Anyone interested in inquiring about job opening can visit the store between 8 a.m. from Monday to Friday and ask for Charity or Julia.
“The construction took longer than anticipated but we’re very anxious to get open,” said Kane. “We’re looking forward to meeting everyone once we do get open.”
