LIVERPOOL, NS - There will be plenty to do, see and hear in downtown Liverpool Dec. 2.
Downtown for the Holidays is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and approximately 40 businesses and organizations are involved in the event.
“Anything from a business offering refreshments when you go in to shop to businesses actually having activities,” explained Heather Kelly, councillor of District 2 for the Region of Queens Municipality.
Brian Fralic, councillor of District 3, came up with the idea as a way to encourage more people – adults and children – to head downtown.
“Last year we noticed that there were very few people on the main street, and there were Christmas carollers as part of Christmas on the Mersey, but they didn’t have an audience,” said Fralic.
“We wanted to give people a reason for staying and a reason to go through doors without actually making it all about the money.”
Fralic said the idea was to provide people a sample of activities that could happen in downtown Liverpool. He said it’s a day for families to enjoy the community.
In addition to local businesses and organizations taking part in the event, three or four pop-up shops will also be participating, said Fralic.
“To create that sense of community,” said Fralic about what’s behind the event. “There’s no sense of community if everybody leaves, so this way hopefully we’ll see our streets fill with people on that Saturday.”
