ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, N.S. - Arts and culture enthusiasts had an opportunity to do some browsing last weekend during a pop-up shop in Annapolis Royal.

On Nov. 18, Sons & Daughters Antiques hosted a pop-up shop at the Satso-Art Studio and Gallery. Ashley McCormick, manager of Sons & Daughters Antiques said the event was an opportunity to show off a number of interesting items for sale – and just in time for Christmas.

He noted that the public viewing was held in conjunction with Satso Art Gallery’s Sharon Irving-Kennedy.

“This gallery is a multi-use space, so it’s not just her material but also for touring artists, local artists, and in this case, antiques,” he said. “So the goal is to give people an alternate stop for Christmas shopping because we’re a seasonal economy and sometimes it’s hard to find places open for Christmas shopping. So that was idea and for us - it’s a family owned building, since the 1860s, and we’ve tried to find ways to keep it operational so the antique store is part of that idea to help pull people upstairs to Sharon’s space and revitalize an old building.”

The viewing was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and as of 2 p.m. McCormick said about 40 people had come through the doors.

He said many of the antiques were of Nova Scotia descent and a few from other Atlantic provinces. He noted that one of the older antiques was a New Brunswick item made of pine from the 1820s.

“I think there was something for everyone to some degree,” he concluded.
