MIDDLETON - There were some cool moves in Middleton Saturday as wheel athletes of all ages and several disciplines dipped into the riding park bowl for some fun competition.
It was all for prizes and bragging rights – and a lot of fun.
The Oct. 14 event at Rotary Park drew a few dozen contestants, mostly on BMX bikes and scooters, although there was one intrepid skateboarder.
“The park is less than a year old and this was the second full competition,” said Chris Hiltz with Cool Moves BMX and an organizer of the event. He said turnout was great. While there were fewer riders in some categories this time, there were more riders who came out and participated that were new faces since the last competition.
“Especially the 13- to 15-year-old scooter class,” he said “This shows more riders are practicing and feeling confidence to come out to show what they can do.”
Each discipline was broken into four age categories with registration money going back into prizes – plus some neat gear from sponsors like Subway (Middleton, Greenwood), Valley Stove and Cycle (Kentville), Sportwheels (Lower Sackville), and Canadian Tire (Greenwood).
Cool Moves BMX also sponsored, along with the Town of Middleton, Shawn’s Sports Excellence, and Frasers.
