LAKE DOUCETTE, N.S. – Can you hear it? The rumble of engines? The squealing of tires? The cheers of spectators?
These sounds are coming very soon as Sunday, June 10 marks the start of the 2018 Lake Doucette Motor Speedway racing season.
Eight race days are planned between now and mid-September at the track. Races get underway at 1 p.m.
This year’s schedule includes:
• June 10: Opening day
• June 24: Larry Gavel Memorial Race Day
• July 8: Kids’ Day
• July 22: Blair Penney Memorial Race Day
• Aug. 5: East Coast Mini Stock Tour
• Aug. 19: race day
• Sept. 2: Fan Appreciation Day
• Sept. 16: Fun Day
Numerous businesses also provide sponsorship throughout the season.
Points from the feature races add up throughout the season to declare the year’s overall race division winners.
This year’s season will see lots of rookie racers. Many new cars have also been built. The 4-cyliner class has been opened up to newer cars, which promises to increase speeds in these races.

And this year the 4-Cyl Ladies Class will be giving away a 4-Cyl race car.
As of late-May, as the upcoming season was starting to take shape, these were some of the numbers lining up:
• 4-Cyl men: 13 cars with 5 rookies
• 4-Cyl women: 6 cars with 3 rookies
• V8 Stock: 10 cars with 4 rookies
• Sportsman: 13 cars with 5 rookies
A majority of drivers will be in new cars this season.
