The Nova Scotia Soccer League’s 2014 Tier 1 outdoor season is underway for at least some of the Valley United teams.
Valley United has nine teams playing Tier 1 this summer – U-14 A and B boys and girls, U-16 boys and girls, U-18 girls and Premier men and women.
The season kicked off May 3-4, with six of the Valley teams seeing action. The U-14A girls and U-16 girls have each played two games so far; the U-16 girls are 1-1 and the U-14A girls had a loss and a draw.
On May 4, the U-14A girls played to a 1-1 draw with Dartmouth in Wolfville, with Mae Batherson scoring the Valley goal. On May 7, the girls lost 4-1 to South Shore in Halifax, with Batherson again netting her team’s only goal.
On May 3, the U-16 girls blanked Dunbrack 5-0, with Taylor Kehoe scoring twice and Madeline Laurence, Annika Tibbutt and Jamie Corkum adding one goal each. Claudia Fulton earned the shutout. On May 4, the U-16 girls dropped a 2-0 decision to Suburban.
The U-14A boys, U-14 B boys and girls and U-16 boys were all 0-1 on the season.
The U-14 A boys lost 1-0 to Dartmouth May 4, while the U-14 B boys lost 2-0 to Cape Breton the same day. The U-16 boys lost 4-1 to Dartmouth May 4, with Mark Messom scoring the Valley goal.
The U-14 B girls dropped a 4-3 decision to XFC on May 3 in Antigonish. Kathleen Balcome, Ally Myalls and Abby Dixon had the Valley goals.
The season for the Valley United U-18 girls, Premier Women and the Valley Kings Arms Premier Men had not yet begun their season as of May 12. Valley United is not fielding an U-18 boys’ Tier 1 team in NSSL play this summer.
