BROOKLYN – Steve Burns says Brooklyn’s 5th annual Run Our Shore event was successful, with approximately 260 runners.

Event planning started in the autumn and involved setting up the event on race roster sites, said Burns, manager of events, promotions and sponsorship for the Region of Queens Municipality.

After that, Burns started to take care of the social media end of things.

“And we get the webpage all updated,” he said.

Following Christmas, the board met a few times.

Burns and Kathy Ann Losier worked together as co-race directors.

Burns says before he got to Queens Place, he began to take his health more seriously. Part of that involved getting in shape by running.

“And then I decided to start a new event,” he explained.

He created a board called Active Living Options Society. The first year, there were about 125 people at Run Our Shore.

Burns says the weather was definitely one of the highlights of this year’s event. Another highlight was having Ben Brown, a wheelchair athlete, there.

“We don’t really think small. We’ve sort of tried to think big,” Burns said.

He says he hopes one day the whole arena surface will be full to start the running season in the province.
