Plenty of good results from Kings-West Hants athletes at regional track meet

WOLFVILLE - There were plenty of impressive performances from Kings-West Hants athletes at the Western Region track and field championships May 29-30 in Wolfville.

In junior girls, Hannah Fuller of Evangeline Middle School won the 800 metres, was second in 1,500 and fourth in 400. Macy Chiasson of Coldbrook won the 1,500 and was second in 3,000, which was won by Isabella Akao of EMS.

Ashley Rogers of Coldbrook won the pole vault with a new record of 2.21 metres. Teammate Ashley Newcombe was second, Sophie Visser of Central Kings third and Taylor Guest of Central Kings fourth. Rogers was also fourth in triple jump.

Ellen Laurence of KCA won the discus and javelin. Kelsey Jordan of Berwick won the hurdles and was third in javelin. Eloise Callaghan of Wolfville took the long jump.

Emma Fulton of Pine Ridge was second in javelin, Maddy Ross of Coldbrook was third in 400 and Erica Rafuse of Pine Ridge was third in 200. The Pine Ridge relay teams were second in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x400.

Sophie Fraser of King’s-Edgehill was third in shot put, Taylor O’Leary of West Hants was fourth in hurdles and Mae Batherson of KES was fourth in 800.

In intermediate girls, the trio of Katherine Traves and Meredith Chambers of KES and Emma DePutter of Landmark East dominated the distance races. Traves won the 800, 1,500 and 3,000, Chambers was second in 1,500 and third in 800 and 3,000, and DePutter was second in 3,000 and third in 1,500.

Jane Hergett of Horton won the 400 metres, Jayda Veinot of Horton the high jump, Maria Rodrigues of Horton the shot put, Grace Bird of Horton the discus and Katelyn Meister of CK the pole vault.

Bird was second in shot put, Victoria Enserink of CK second in pole vault, Meister second in discus, and Julia Schmidt of KES second in javelin.

Meghan MacLeod of Horton was third in 100 metres, Natasha Kennedy of CK third in high jump, and Rodrigues fourth in discus. Horton won the 4X100 relay and was second in the 4x400.

In senior girls, Emily MacArthur of Horton won 1,500 and 3,000 and was fourth in 800. Jackie Stevens of CK won 800 and was third in 100 and 1,500. Jenna Seaboyer of KES won shot put and discus and Caitlin Nickerson of CK won the pole vault.

Gillian Cumby of Horton was second in 400 and hurdles and also helped Horton to first in the 4x400 relay. Sarah Hickman of KES was second in 100 and fourth in 200. Paige Chisholm of NKEC was second in 1,500 and 3,000 and third in 800. Meaghan Vaughan of Northeast Kings was second in 800 and fourth in 1,500.

Jenna Breckon of West Kings was second in high jump and fourth in discus. Meaghan Nicholson of NKEC was second in discus.

Laura Palmer of West Kings was third in 3,000. Both King’s-Edgehill relay teams placed second, Horton was third and NKEC fourth in the 4x100.

Among the female special athletes, Katelyn Robicheau of CK won long jump and was third in shot put. Serena Carleton of NKEC won the 100 metres and long jump and was second in shot put.

 

On the boys side

In junior boys, Jaden Perry of Berwick won the 800, 1,500 and 3,000, and Brennan Foote of CK the pole vault. West Hants won the 4x400 relay and was second in the 4X100. Berwick was second in the 4x400 and Wolfville third in the 4x100.

Mitchell Vaughan of KCA was second in 800, Mark Corkum of KCA second in hurdles, and Logan Potter of KCA second in high jump.

Sam Cadrain of Berwick was third in 1,500 and 3,000, Andrew Canete of KES third in 100 and 200, Sam Schoonhoven of EMS third in hurdles, and Hudson McCarthy of Hantsport third in discus. Owen Kidston of EMS was fourth in 800, Callum Pufahl of Wolfville fourth in high jump, and Colton Balsor of CL fourth in shot put.

In intermediate boys, MacKenzie Beattie of CK won the 400 metres in a new record time of 51.80 seconds. Noah James of West Hants won the hurdles, and Kristof Mercier of Rose Des Vents won the javelin. Ryan Hebb of Avon View won the long jump and was second in 100 metres.

Central Kings dominated the intermediate boys’ pole vault, led by Austin Visser who won the event with a record vault of 3.22 metres. Nick Clarke of CK was second, Eric Visser of CK third and Hayden Sarsfield of CK fourth.

Griffin Abbott of NKEC was second in triple jump and third in high jump and long jump. Alex Carter of CK was second in hurdles. Coleman Hooper of Horton was third in 800 and fourth in 1,500.

Parker King of Horton was third in 200. Connor Ross of CK was third in discus. Logan Way of West Kings was fourth in 800, and Dan Lord of West Hants was fourth in hurdles. Central Kings was second in the 4x400 relay and fourth in 4x100. West Hants was third in 4x100 and fourth in 4x400.

In senior boys, Owen Hebb of NKEC won the long jump with a new record time of 6.58 metres and triple jump, was second in hurdles and third in pole vault. Brock O’Brien of Horton won the shot put and discus, Ben Best of CK won the pole vault, and Bryden Dunphy of Horton won the 800 and was second in 1,500.

Noah Shankel of CK was second in 800 and third in 1,500. Anthony Jacques of Rose Des Vents was second in high jump. Lukas Kane of CK was second in pole vault. Nick Sangster of Horton was third in 400, and Anthony Sabourin-Caron of Rose Des Vents was third in 100 and 200.

Fourth-place finishes went to Nathan McCarthy of CK in javelin, Jacob Newcombe of CK in pole vault, Jadon Abriel of West Kings in triple jump and Isaac Hazel of Avon View in long jump. In the relays, Horton was second in 4x400 and third in 4x100, NKEC was fourth in 4x100 and CK was fourth in 4x400.

In the male special athlete competition, Mitchell Sizaire of EMS won the junior 100 metres, was second in shot put and fourth in long jump. Jayson Fike of CK was second in junior shot put and fourth in long jump. In the senior division, Andrew Jenner of CK won the 100, long jump and shot put. Tyler Carter of Horton was third in shot put, Morgan Minor of Horton fourth in 100 and Justin Welton of NKEC fourth in long jump.

The top finishers from the regional meet advance to the NSSAF provincial championships June 5-6, which will once again take place at Acadia.
