Crouse is a Grade 11 student at North Queens Community School.  She’s also a cross country runner and a volleyball player.

The 16-year-old has been running and playing volleyball since she was in elementary school.

Crouse says that cross-country and volleyball provide her with different things.

“I put them in two categories cross-country is more competitive and volleyball is more for fun, though I still take it competitively,” says Crouse.

She says she feels very competitive with cross-country but that it’s more independent.  For example, if she goes to an event, even if she doesn’t place high, she gets satisfaction from beating her own previous times.

“Once you’re done running, you feel really good,” says Crouse.

Her cross-country runs are usually five-kilometre runs but she also does some 10-km runs.  She also runs in her free time.

Crouse says she really enjoys volleyball for the team aspect of it.

“Winning, losing, celebrating good things,” says Crouse.

Outside of her school sports, Crouse is a member of 4H where she participates in poultry showing, photography, and sewing.

“I have Polish chickens, they’re the ones with the afros,” says Crouse. “I love them, I had them my first year of poultry and I still have them.”

Crouse also has a busy home life.  Her parents are dairy farmers and own more than 70 dairy cows.  Crouse doesn’t have a job outside of the family farm.

“We do barn (duties) twice a day and I usually do it at 5 (p.m.),” says Crouse.

Crouse would like to pursue cross-country running when she goes to university.  She would like to attend Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro in the future. While she’s not sure what she wants to do yet, she knows she loves working with animals.
