WINDSOR, N.S. — King's-Edgehill School's seniors girls' rugby team is continuing to register successes on the field.
The girls took on the West Kings Wolverines May 1 and defeated them 20-7 — but it wasn't an easy victory. The teams found themselves fighting for control of the ball numerous times near each other's goal line.
Head coach Rory Campbell commended Hannah Benedict, for stepping in at fly half and playing well while Amy Marchand-Dion was away.
“Tessa Firth, Tea Racozzi, Stefania Riverina, and Joanne Huang all played well,” he noted in an interview following the game.
Sharon Estrada scored three tries in KES's victory and Morgan Rogers sprinted nearly half the field to score one try.
Campbell said West Kings has developed a “very strong team and will definitely be a contender at provincials for division 2.”
It's anticipated KES, Avon View and Horton will be the main contenders on the road to D1 provincials.
Rugbyfest — a day of seniors girls' rugby games at Avon View High School — will be taking place in Windsor at AVHS from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tournament will feature teams from throughout the Valley. The first game of the day will see the host school take on their hometown rival KES.
