The game, held May 18, saw cross-town rivals Avon View and KES vie to win the league final — with the winner getting to host the regional final.
“We got off to a really great start; we were up 14-0 right away,” said Avon View's coach Jim Bryan.
“But I think the girls relaxed too much and then they fought back. With the heat and everything, it kind of drained them.”
King's Edgehill closed the score to 14-12 midway through the second half.
Avon View managed to score another try and stave off King's-Edgehill's advances to win it 17-12.
“I'd like to give a shout out to our opponent. We had them on their heels to start – scored twice right away – and they didn't give up. They just came at us and gave us a game,” said Bryan.
“Both teams battling that hard together makes the two teams that much stronger.”
Bryan said flanker Spencer Kehoe and fullback Hannah Allen both had extremely strong games.
Allen was selected as the Hants County Machine's player of the game.
Kehoe, who is in Grade 12, has really come into her own on the pitch, Bryan said.
“She's just been doing really well this year. She's playing at a whole other level... she tackles, she's winning line outs, she's rucking well, she's running with the ball, she's just doing everything,” said Bryan.
King's-Edgehill will now host the regional semi-final May 23 against Park View. The winner of that match will play Avon View May 25 in the regional final. Due to the strength of the Hants County teams, a Hants County final is being predicted.
