Kentville Marlins continue steady improvement, good showing at meets

The Kentville Marlins swim team continued its steady improvement this season at their two most recent meets, July 19 in Windsor and July 20 in Bridgewater.

The Marlins had 12 top-10 finishes at Windsor, including three top-threes, as part of a 10th place finish overall with 196 points.

Isaac Payne, in his first year swimming in the 15-and-over boys’ division, was second in both 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and fourth in 200 freestyle.

Haley Cross, 13, was second in 100 breaststroke and fifth in 400 freestyle.

Chantel Graves, 17, was fifth in 200 free and sixth in both 400 free and 100 breast for a total of three top-10 swims.

In other highlights, Sarah Zaw, 12, was seventh in 50 free and ninth in 100 free. Danielle Dawson, 17, was tenth in 100 breast, Emma-Jane Hockley, 11, was twelfth in 100 free, and Katelyn Neary, 10, was thirteenth in 25 breast.

Among the participation swimmers, Drew Hockley, 9, placed fourth in 25 breast.


Eighth overall in Bridgewater

In Bridgewater, there were 10 top-10 swims en route to eighth place overall with 97 points.

Graves was fifth in 100 back and sixth in 400 free, in addition to an 11th-place finish in 50 ’fly.  Zaw was third in 100 IM, the top finish by a Kentville swimmer, and eleventh in 50 ’fly.

Jordan Keddy, 10, was eighth in 25 ’fly and tenth in 100 IM. Katelyn Neary was seventh in 25 ’fly and 14th in 50 back. Haley Cross was ninth in 50 breast and 14th in 200 IM, and Ethan Payne, 17, was 13th in 100 free.

Among the participation swimmers, Emma Reeves, 11, was seventh in 50 free, 10th in 100 IM and 13th in 25 ’fly. Luc VanFeggelen, 9, was fifth in 25 back, and Drew Hockley was 15th in 25 back.
