This year, for the first time, Central Kings held a separate athletic awards ceremony for its junior and middle school student-athletes.

Junior/middle school athletic director Leta Totten said, in its first year of middle level athletic competition, CK had eight teams, made up of 70 student-athletes and including 22 coaches and volunteers.

“Without the support of these volunteers, this season would not have happened,” Totten said.

CK had a junior golf team, junior girls’ and boys’ soccer, junior girls’ and boys’ volleyball, junior girls’ and boys’ basketball and a junior track and field team.

Some junior and middle school athletes also took part in cross-country, softball and other sports that did not have a dedicated team at the junior level.

Rather than recognizing individual athletes of the year at this ceremony, an evening of recognition was held June 11 “to share stories, present awards and mingle with athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents and guardians.”

Award recipients included Colton Balsor, Hannah Comeau-Ouellette, Jacob Comeau-Ouellette, William Crocker, Lucas Dorrance, Owen Kinsman, Morgan Laffin, Courtney Lutz, Cailie Morgan, Evan Murphy, Alex Parnell, Nathan Parnell, Emma Reeves, Katelyn Robicheau, Austin Visser, Sophie Visser and Justin Woo.

The Central Kings senior athletic awards ceremony was held the previous evening.

Athlete of the year winners were Hillary Dort, senior female athlete of the year; Jacob Shepherd, senior male athlete of the year; Geoff Mullen, junior male athlete of the year; and Emma Hachey, junior female athlete of the year.

NSSAF Celebration of School Sport awards were presented to Rachel Meister (female student-athlete), Nick Miller (male student-athlete) and Rodney Sabean (teacher/coach). Meister and Miller were also presented with the female and male Unsung Gator awards.

Shepherd and Dort were presented with NSSAF Ron O’Flaherty Scholar-Athlete awards as CK’s nominees for those awards.
