In order to win against the Blue Jays, the team must defeat them twice. This is because Noel Road has yet to lose a game during the championship weekend while the Knights and Hantsport both have one loss apiece.
The following is a recap of the baseball action on Aug 26.
Noel Road Blue Jays 4, Sherose Island Schooners 2
The Schooners put two runners on base on a single and a walk with two out in the top of the seventh in the opening game of the day but Devin Nickerson struck out and the Blue Jays pulled out a 4-2 win.
Matt Wiseman’s double in the bottom of the sixth that was followed by a bunt sacrifice by Josh Burke and a sacrifice fly by Colin McCulloch proved to be the insurance run after the Jays went up 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on two Schooner errors and the first two of four sacrifices which gave the Jays the win. Burke also added a two-run single for the Jays.
Sean Marshall went the distance for the win while Shannon Smith, for the Schooners, took the loss.
Hantsport Shamrocks 5, Windsor Knights 2
The Hantsport Shamrocks scored a single run in the first and a pair each in the fifth and sixth innings to record a 5-2 win over the Windsor Knights.
The score stood at 1-0 for Hantsport until the fifth when Hantsport scored their two runs after two were out on a single, a stolen base, an error, a walk and an RBI double by Roland Provencal.
The Knights came back with one run before the Shamrocks added their additional runs in the sixth. Matt Lloy pitched the win for Hantsport and Alex Sabean suffered the loss. Both pitchers recorded seven strike outs.
Windsor Knights 3, Sherose Island Schooners 1
In a match-up featuring the losing teams from the morning games, the Knights received a stellar pitching performance from Paul Humphreys who allowed only four hits while walking no one.
The only run he allowed was a home run by Alex Swim to deep left field, which Dave Swindall attempted to catch before it sailed into the parking lot.
The Knights scored their runs on a suicide squeeze by Alex Patterson that scored Cory Whitney and an RBI double by Derek Hart and an RBI single by Patterson.
Tristan Reede suffered the pitching loss for the Schooners.
Noel Road Blue Jays 10, Hantsport Shamrocks 2
The Blue Jays got off to an early start against the Shamrocks and after scoring three runs in the first, they never looked back.
The first three batters for Noel Road in the first inning all reached base, following a hit batsman, a sacrifice fly and another walk. Shamrocks' pitcher Tim Clayton was tossed from the game after he blew his stack at both umpires.
Hantsport closed to within one run in the fourth but Noel Road came back with three more in their half of the fifth, including two on an RBI single from Lee Spares.
Noel Road completed their scoring with four more in the sixth inning on sloppy play by the Shamrocks who were using their third pitcher at this point. The Shamrocks committed an error, walked three batters and three passed balls. Clayton was tagged with the loss while Kyle McCulloch notched the win.
