Automatically advancing to provincials, being held in Amherst April 1-3, are NKEC and Horton, which each finished first in their round robin pools. NKEC had a 10-0 win over Digby and a 6-1 win over Yarmouth. Horton had a 5-4 win over Central Kings and a 3-1 win over West Kings.

(UPDATE: West Kings, which finished three at regionals, now also advances to provincials because the provincials host Amherst won their regionals series on March 8).

In other pool play on the first day of D2 regionals in Kingston, Yarmouth had a 6-4 win over Digby and West Kings had a 5-2 win over Central Kings.

The regionals title championship game did not go ahead on March 7 following a medical issue at the arena just prior to the game. It was agreed the regionals title game between NKEC and Horton would be rescheduled for a later date.

In the crossovers the morning of March 7, West Kings defeated Digby and Yarmouth defeated Central Kings to play in the game to determine 3rd and 4th place regionals rankings. West Kings had a spectacular third period come-from-behind win to claim victory in that game 7-5.

Yarmouth and West Kings had been tied 1-1 as the second period was drawing to a close but Yarmouth gained the 2-1 lead, scoring with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. In the third period Yarmouth jumped ahead to a 4-1 lead. West Kings closed the gap to 4-3 before Yarmouth went ahead 5-3. With just over two minutes left in the game West Kings tied the score 5-5. The Wolverines then scored the go-ahead goal 26.7 seconds left and rounded out the scoring on Yarmouth Viking’s empty net with 15.4 seconds left.

As mentioned, following that game, West Kings had to await the outcome of a March 8 regionals series final involving the provincials host team Amherst. Amherst won the game 5-1, which means West Kings advances to provincials too. Had Amherst lost that series, West Kings wouldl have had to play a qualifier with Dalbrae high school.

Yarmouth, meanwhile, must now play a qualifier Eastern Shore to determine which of these two teams will advance to provincials. Due to March Break, that qualifier won’t be played until later this month.

In Division 2 regionals that were held in Bridgetown March 4 and 5, the Bridgetown Trojans were declared the regionals championship with a 6-2 win over the Par-en-Bas Sharks in the title game. Both teams advance to provincials, being held in Inverness April 1-3. For Barrington and Middleton, their seasons came to an end at regionals.
