Valley Maple Leafs lose to Bulldogs in shootout, prep for Sunday's game

WINDSOR, N.S. — The Antigonish Farmers Mutual Bulldogs eked out a shootout victory over the Valley Maple Leafs while they were visiting the hometown team's turf Oct. 20.

The Bulldogs led the contest 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Giordano Saputo.

When the second period ended, the Bulldogs held a slight 4-3 advantage. Saputo scored again for the visitors, and Jacob Tompkins and Giovanni Akeson each added one. Manuel Manero, Taylor Brown and Wesley Demone each scored for the Leafs.

The third period saw the Leafs tie the game twice. Isaac Bridge scored to make it 4-4. About two minutes later, Devin MacLaughlin, of the Bulldogs, scored to make it 5-4. With 6:25 remaining, Brody McCarron tied it 5-5. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout, and the Bulldogs emerged victorious.

Assists for the Leafs went to Sean Anderson (2), Ethan Rendell-Watson (2), Joe Beaton, Kyle Keddy, Alex McGaw and Demone.

Chris Clokie was in nets for the Leafs and was tagged with the loss. He faced 34 shots on goal. Braden Henwood faced 29 shots in net for the Bulldogs.

The Leafs will have to shake off the loss quickly as they host the Cumberland County Blues Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Other upcoming games include Oct. 26, when the Leafs visit Brookfield, Oct. 27 when the Leafs host Liverpool, and Oct. 30 when the Leafs travel to Sackville to battle the Blazers.
