Forward Kayden Nickerson and defenseman Brett Smith were selected as part of the Team South squad. Both players are from the Barrington area and are a product of the Shelburne County Minor Hockey Association.

Nickerson, a second year bantam in his first season as a Hurricane, was leading his team with 16 points in 20 games at the time of his selection.  His performance this season includes scoring five consecutive team goals on a weekend in mid December.  “Kayden has worked hard the past two seasons on and off the ice to give himself a chance to play at this level” said Hurricanes Coach Andrew Holland.  “He has been our most consistent forward at both ends of the ice and was very worthy of his all-star selection.”

Smith is team captain and in his second season as a Hurricane.  “Brett was a natural pick to lead us as captain.  He is a good puck moving defenseman and has been very steady on our blue line.  In a rebuilding year with just two returning players and a younger squad, Brett has been a calm influence with his team first mentality, and always sets a good example for the rest of the boys” added Holland.

This was second year that the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League has hosted this event.  The league was divided into six teams to represent Team North and the other six teams to represent Team South.  Players from both squads got to participate in a team practice, enjoyed a team meal, and ended the day with the game which was all coordinated by the league.  Jim Midgley, assistant coach for the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL was guest coach for Team South, while Trevor Steinberg, the Head Coach of the Saint Mary’s Huskies University men’s squad, led Team North.  All the players from each team received a shirt and a toque as part of their selection.

Two more Shelburne County natives, forwards Connor Goodick and Brandon Huskilson also make up part of the Hurricane roster.  Goodick, a second year bantam was enjoying a solid offensive season until a recent injury sidelined him. “It was very unfortunate that Connor got hurt.  At the time he was playing very well and was finding his game.  We definitely miss his offense and work ethic, and look forward to him returning to the lineup” said Holland.  Huskilson, a first year bantam, is in his rookie season as a Hurricane.  “Brandon brings some offensive skill and is a solid player on both sides of the puck.  We expect him to keep improving on his solid play, and become a real leader for us heading into next season.”
