And once again special tribute will be paid to a former Barons player during the tournament, as has been tradition at past Lobster Trap Tournaments.

The tournament, hosted by the Barrington Barons boys high school hockey team, kicks off Thursday night, Feb. 11, with a game between the Barons and the Par-en-Bas Sharks at 8 p.m.

Other teams taking part in the tournament include Yarmouth, Bridgewater, St. Stephen, KV Crusaders and St. George.

Following the opening ceremonies on Friday, Feb. 12, the Justin Kenney Memorial Game will be played at 7:30 pm between the host Barons and the St. George team from New Brunswick.

Justin Kenney was a former Baron’s defenseman who died in a motor vehicle accident in 1999. Organizers of the tournament say Kenney and his Barons teammates had progressed throughout a variety of local sports together and were a very tight-knit group. Kenney is described as having been a highly valued player, not only because of his ability on the ice, but also because of the great emphasis he placed on team success.

Last year had seen a break in the Lobster Trap Tournament as there hadn’t been enough teams for it to go forward, therefore the Barons are looking forward to hosting it again. The games are all being played at the Barrington Arena.

The admission is $5 per game, $10 for a day pass and $20 for a tournament pass.
