Hockey Axemen lose second straight, 2-0 to St. F.X.

WOLFVILLE - For a second straight evening on home ice, the hockey Axemen got plenty of shots on goal, but couldn't translate them into points on the scoresheet.

The Axemen dropped their second straight game Nov. 8 in Wolfville as they were blanked 2-0 by St. F.X. despite outshooting the X-men 34-22.

Blake Gal opened the scoring for St. F.X. with an even-strength goal after just 1:53 of the first period. It remained 1-0 until Jagger Dirk beat Brandon Glover on the power play 41 seconds into the third.

Drew Owsley made 34 saves in the X-men goal, while Glover turned aside 20 of 22. Acadia pulled their goalie in the final two minutes for an extra attacker, but could not manage to find the back of the net behind Owsley.

Despite the loss, the Axemen, who fell to 7-3 on the season, were able to hold onto third place in the standings, albeit just one point ahead of fourth-place Moncton (6-3-1). Saint Mary's and UNB are tied for top spot at 8-1-1.
