In a game that featured the second (UNB) and third-ranked (Acadia) teams in the CIS, Pufahl's even-strength goal after just 1:43 of the extra session decided a contest that was close throughout. Each team finished with 32 shots on goal.

Peter Trainor opened the scoring for UNB with a power play goal at 16:44 of the first period. Less than two minutes later, at 18:31, Liam Heelis evened the score at one with a power play marker of his own, assisted by Chris Owens.

Michael Clarke gave Acadia its first lead of the evening with an even-strength goal at 2:54 of the second period. Sam Fioretto then made it 3-1 Axemen with an even-strength marker at 15:18, but before the period ended, Trainor replied with his second power play goal of the game at 18:39 to pull UNB to within one at 3-2.

The V-Reds then scored the only goal of the third period, Matt Petgrave beating Brandon Glover at 18:57 to tie the score and force overtime.

The win was Acadia's fourth in five regular season games. UNB suffered its first loss, though the V-Reds did earn a point for forcing overtime.

Acadia is right back at it on home ice Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., with the Moncton Aigles Bleus providing the opposition.
