According to a press release, Dupont had to cancel due to an illness.
“He wants to apologize to all his fans and the people attending the Long Pond Classic this year,” the press release reads.
Replacing him in the celebrity line-up is Stéphane Richer, a two-time 50-goal scorer.
Richer played with five different NHL teams but spent most of his career (about eight seasons) with the Montreal Canadiens. He also played with the New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightening, St. Louis Blues and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Richler played in 1,054 NHL games, scored 421 goals and had 398 assists for a total of 819 points. He won two Stanley Cups, one with Montreal in 1986 and one with New Jersey in 1995. He also won the Calder Cup in 1985 as a rookie, was part of Canada’s gold medal-winning team in the 1985 World Junior Championships.
The fundraising event gets underway Jan. 21 in Windsor and features hockey legend Ray Bourque and fellow NHLer Joe DiPenta.
