The Bay Ducks from St. Margaret’s Bay are moving their home base to Queens Place Emera Centre (QPEC). Steve Burns, General Manager of QPEC confirmed the move on Aug. 1.
“It’s a great win for the community and it shows great confidence in our community,” says Burns.
Dave Campbell, the president of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League confirmed the move as well.
“Everything is in place for the Bay Ducks to move there, the individuals involved purchased the franchise from St. Margaret’s arena,” says Campbell. “It looks like they should be playing out of there in the fall.”
Part of the reason for the move appears to be money. Campbell says the team hasn’t been making a lot of money in St. Margaret’s Bay.
“In the last couple years the Bay Ducks have not had a very good time at the gate,” says Campbell. “There was no one there to overhead the finances to keep the team in the bay area.”
Campbell speculated that the Ducks may change their names upon their move.
The Advance has reached out to the team manager for comment.
More to come.
