Barrington Barons defeat two Vikings teams in high school hockey action

BARRINGTON, NS – The Barrington Barons boys high school hockey team defeated two Vikings teams at home.

On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30, the Barons hosted the Bridgewater Vikings at the Sandy Wickens arena, posting an 11-4 victory.  Starting off the scoring for the Barons squad was Tanner Messenger,  three and half minutes into the first. Tanner Bateman and Jacob Symonds netted the next two goals for the Barons but the Bridgewater Vikings answered back with goal from Evan O’ Toole.

Scoring his first goal as a Baron, Chandler Symonds scored the next one, followed by another goal by Jacob Symonds.  But the Vikings had the last say in the first, with Max Hartling scoring for Bridgewater, making it 5-2 for the Barons at the end of the first period.

The second period opened up with goals from the Barons, with both Joe Atkinson, and Jude Greenwood scoring but the Bridgewater Vikings chimed back with Max Hartling scoring his second goal of the game and one from Jake Young.  The second period ended with the Barons scoring two more, a hat trick for Jacob Symonds and a goal from Gabriel Penney ending the second 9-4 Barons.

The third period was all Barons, scoring two more while keeping the Vikings off the board.  Goals from Jacob Symonds and a second for Jude Greenwood brought the final score to 11-4.  It was a fast paced, clean game, with plenty of offense from the Barons. 

During their home season opener on Oct. 26, the Barons faced off against the Yarmouth Vikings in front of a fan-packed arena for a 7 to 2 Barons win. 

The Barons opened up the scoring in the first period with goals from Brett Smith and Tanner Messenger for a two-goal lead. 

The second period opened with another goal for the Barons by Tanner Bateman but the Yarmouth Vikings fought back with two quick goals from Brad Jones to make it 3 to 2.  The second period ended with a late goal from Jacob Symonds to give the Barons the 4-2 lead. 

The third period was all Barons, with two more goals from Jacob Symonds and a late goal from Gabriel Penney, his first goal as a Baron.  Adrian Nickerson and Tanner Messenger both had three assists for the Barons. 

Both teams played a clean game and both goalies played well between the posts with the Barons out shooting the Vikings by a large margin.

This weekend the Barons travel to Yarmouth for another rematch against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. at the Mariners Centre. The Barons are home on Sunday where they host the Digby Mariners at 1 p.m.
