The series, which starts in Halifax this weekend, will determine the final berth in the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation’s Division I boys’ hockey championship that will be held in Pictou on March 27-29.
The task will be difficult but not completely out of reason as the Citadel team is still stinging after being eliminated in the Metro High School Hockey League championship final this past weekend.
Citadel finished in first place in the Metro league during the regular season with a 20-2-2 record. They were nine points in front of the second place team. However, when it came to the playoffs, Citadel lost all four of their games, three of which were overtime or shoot-out losses.
The Avalanche just came off a tough 8-7 overtime loss in the Valley High School Hockey League playoff semi-finals to Park View. It marked their second straight loss in the Western Zone Division I playoff series.
Looking at the Avalanche's season, three points separated the top four players.
Peter MacDougall, an absolutely tireless worker for the Avalanche, put on a late season splash to earn top scoring honours for his team with 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points.
Adam Ferguson, despite being out two months with an injury, finished second with 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points.
Keeshaun Such had 25 points on the season, with 11 goals and 14 assists.
Nick Gerhardt finished with nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points.
