Acadia won the Nov. 15 game 6-0 and the Nov. 16 game 3-1. The teams play in the Eastern Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

In the Nov. 15 game, both teams played a scoreless opening period. The scoreless tie was mainly due to Holland College goaltender Jennie Underwood, as Acadia outshot their guests 18-3.

The Axewomen continued to dominate the second period, but were unable to score until Erin Sauvé found the net at 11:09, the only goal of the second period.

Acadia then erupted for five third-period goals. Sauvé scored her second of the game, Sam Hawes made it 3-0 and Kendyl Wilson increased the lead to 4-0 just 30 seconds later.

Sauvé completed her hat trick to make it 5-0 with 2:03 remaining in the period, and Kayla McNutt rounded out the scoring less than a minute later.

Acadia ended up outshooting Holland College 44-18, with Jessica Enman earning the shutout.

The Nov. 16 game was a lot closer. Holland College opened the scoring on a goal by Melissa French midway through the first period. Acadia tied the game at one on Maddie MacKenzie’s goal with 7:21 remaining in the second period.

About three minutes later, Sauvé gave Acadia the lead for good with her fourth goal of the weekend.

According to Acadia head coach Dave Ettinger, Holland College “came back hard for the remainder of the period,” outshooting Acadia 10-4, but Enman stood her ground.

The third period was “a hard-fought battle,” Ettinger said, but “outstanding goaltending” by Enman proved to be the difference.

A goal by Meghan Marenick with five minutes left rounded out the scoring in Acadia’s favour. Shots on goal were fairly even, with Acadia holding a 29-28 edge.
