The Berwick Bruins Bantam House Team won the gold medal and title of tournament champs at a recent Bantam House tournament hosted in Berwick. Berwick and District Minor Hockey held their annual tournament Jan. 24-26 at the Berwick Appledome with six teams playing in the Bantam House division.
The Berwick Bruins Bantam House team met with four of those teams and closed out the weekend undefeated. They started off Jan. 24 by taking an early lead and moving on to defeat West Hants 4-3. Berwick’s goals included two scored by Jacob Jay and one each by James Brick and Mike Roberts. Brick was Player of the Game for the Bruins.
On Jan. 25, Berwick faced off against the Acadia Bantam House team in a 7-4 win. Jay scored four times, Roberts twice, and Spencer Nichols once for Berwick. Roberts was Player of the Game.
On Jan. 26, Berwick met with the Clare Acadiens and came out with a 6-0 win. Vaughn Schoonhoven, Roberts and Megan Garvock all scored once for Berwick, while Jay scored a hat trick and was awarded Player of the Game.
This win sent Berwick to the gold medal game later that day against the Digby Ravens. Brick scored Berwick's first goal, then Roberts added another. Jay scored twice to lift Berwick to a 4-3 win over the Ravens. Alex Anderson was Player of the Game for Berwick.
The tournament earned the Bruins the gold medal and title of tournament champions in the Bantam House Division.
The Berwick Bruins Atom House team also won the gold medal in their division.
