The only female player, Abigail Gloumeau of the Greenwood area, isn’t bothered being the sole representative of her gender.
“I don’t care,” she said with a smile during half time. Abigail’s older brothers are keen football players and the 10-year-old believes she’s growing up with the sport.
The Valley Minor Football Association’s team of nine-and ten-year-olds are the association’s entry-level division with a focus on fun and fundamentals. They come from all over Kings County and several hail from Annapolis County.
Six or seven coaches, led by Paul Arsenault, were busy introducing the players to the language, strategy and hard work associated with the game.
Oct. 11 was Football Day in the Valley and Purolator representatives were at the field with a food bank fundraiser.
